Jext Telez Black Drone Wasp Fuzz

Sometimes, pedals come through our office that are fairly loud. Sometimes, we get pedals that are REALLY loud. Today’s pedal might just be the loudest one we’ve ever encountered, and let us tell you, loud doesn’t even really begin to describe it. The Black Drone Wasp from Jext Telez is an absolute monster of a fuzz, and, while it can get extremely high in the volume department, it never gets shrill or too high-pitched, keeping an even keel tone throughout most all of its settings. No shortage of fuzzy goodness here, people: this is a fuzz for the ages.

There are two main knobs for controlling the Black Drone Wasp, if you can call it controlling: Volume and Gain. Go easy when you first turn the pedal on, though, as anything past about 9:00 will start to blow your speakers and peel the paint off your walls. The Gain is a fuzz control, which pretty much goes from pretty fuzzy to extremely fuzzy, gaining in presence as this parameter is increased. There are three toggle switches, with 2 modes each for Bias Switching, Bass Cut and Treble Cut, which help to create some intriguing textures and tones. All in all, though, this is just a loud, killer fuzz, with beautiful harmonic overtones and midrange growl, thanks to the NOS RCA 2N404 transistors, and a slew of high-grade components peppered throughout the rest of the circuit.

Big Muffs are great pedals; so are Tone Benders; the Black Drone Wasp eats these guys for 2nd breakfast. Ballsy, in-your-face and rude in the nicest of ways, it delivers the distortion tone you’ve been searching (possibly your entire life) for, and will knock the socks off any drummer or bass player that tries to get in your way on stage. We’re really digging the lineup that the Jext Telez crew is putting out, and can’t wait to see what tricks they have up their sleeves coming up. Be sure to find their pedals at any of their official dealers, or on Reverb.com as well – don’t forget to watch and listen to our demo below, too – it’s a doozy!
