For all the pedals we’ve had the pleasure to peruse from our friends at Free The Tone, we’ve never come across a bad apple, and there’s no reason for that to change now. Their latest endeavor is a wonderfully exploratory delay unit, rivaling the Flight Time delays, but with a new, unique sound. The FF-1Y Future Factory RF Phase Modulation Delay “succeeds in creating a new modulation sound with a unique method, in which signal’s phase changes at random when the signal crosses a certain attenuation level. This creates an unprecedented effect in which a fluctuating spacious sound seems to float in the air…” Let’s see what it can do, shall we?
As usual, Free The Tone has made a complicated-looking but relatively easy-to-use effects pedal, and though it may look daunting at first, just sitting down with it for a few minutes will have you in a wondrous echoland you never knew existed. Featuring a dedicated 3-band EQ section, you can adjust the tonal properties of the delay effect to taste, matching the frequency of any instrument you can throw at it. You can add soft clipping to the delay, giving it a little edge and grit, harkening back to the stellar sound of vintage echo units.
The Future Factory incorporates TWO delay modules, making it a perfect match in either a mono or stereo rig. Using the world-first Random Fluctuating Phase Modulation Function, along with a 32-bit high-precision DSP, built-in HTS Circuit and analog mixer and instrument or line input level switching, this is one do-it-all delay that will leave you breathless.
Delay phase invert, a trails function, tap input and MIDI connectivity, the options are seemingly endless. You also have access to 128 total presets, and even the always welcome External Expression Pedal jack, for more control over this glorious machine.
