Walrus Audio Monument Harmonic Tap Tremolo V2

Since the crew over at Walrus Audio have been supporters of us since we started Pedal of the Day, we thought that it would be fun to have a “Walrus Week” here, and showcase three new pedals they have recently released over the next couple of days. We’re going to start with the brand new Monument Harmonic Tap Tremolo V2, which builds on the original model, simplifying and shrinking everything, but giving you more options in a smaller enclosure. From assignable expression control to improved response overall and more, this second offering takes a killer tremolo and makes it even better.

The Monument V2 features five differing Shape modes, which allow you to vary the wave shapes produced by the effect. Sine, Square, Ramp, Lumps and Monument modes are yours to select from, with the last one being a random shape producer, perfect for experimentation and non-conformist noise creation. You can choose from 4 separate note division selections as well: Quarter, Triplet, Eighth and Sixteenth, further opening the doors of perception and investigation into the Monument’s uses and functionality.

In addition to the Rate, Depth and Volume controls, there’s a toggle that lets you move seamlessly between Standard and Harmonic tremolo modes. The Harmonic mode splits your incoming signal into high and low frequencies, then modulates each one in different directions, creating a phaser-ish sound reminiscent of the old Fender Brownface amps, with a warm and inviting sound. The Expression jack has been expanded upon, too, able to function as an external tap tempo OR as an expression pedal control jack for Rate, Depth, Shape or Tap Multiplier, and is assignable on the fly.

Producing rich, warm modulation that can be at times smooth as water in an oasis or as jagged as the cliffs of Monument Valley, this second version feels right at home in its new, smaller enclosure. Plus, the tremolo response has been improved, and the top-mounted jacks make it easy to fit into any pedalboard situation. You can use the Bypass switch as a momentary Effect On function, letting you intersperse your music with bursts of punchy tremolo infusion. Plus, hold the bypass switch down while the Monument is engaged, and instantly ramp up the tremolo rate (release to return to the previously set tempo). Cheers to Colt and the Walrus team for making some excellent improvements on an already bold tremolo pedal – be sure to check out our demo below to hear it in action, and stay tuned tomorrow for another delicious piece of audio gear from Walrus Audio!
