Not really sure where to begin with today’s featured pedal…. the crew at Meris has been crushing the effects game over the last couple years, and the Enzo was one highly anticipated pedal when it was released. A true multi-voice synthesizer in a box, this magnificent gold beauty takes everything you knew about synth pedals and flips it upside down, spins it around and jettisons it into the far reaches of space. The sonic possibilities here are almost innumerable, as the list of options and variation with only the tiniest of tweaks create a real auditory force to be reckoned with, and, if possible, semi-contained.
We need to dive into the controls, first and foremost. The Pitch knob changes the pitch of the Synth or Dry signal in half step increments, while Filter adjusts the cutoff frequency of the filter. Mix blends your dry signal with the crazy effects produced, and Sustain increases the sustain of Synth notes. The Filter Envelope knob sets attack and decay rates for the Triggered Envelope, as well as setting the direction and sensitivity for the Envelope Follower. Rounding out the main controls, Modulation detunes the oscillators of each Synth voice.
As with all Meris pedals, each of these controls is hiding a secret – using the Alt button, you can unleash SIX more hidden parameters, ranging from Filter Type to Delay Level to Bandwidth and more. There are also 4 modes to select from here: Polyphonic, Monophonic, Arpeggiated and Dry (in Dry Mode, the Modulation knob sets the amount of delay modulation, while Sustain compresses the input). These only open up the possibilities you have more, and with Expression Pedal control and Stereo Outs, this guy is sure to find it’s way onto ANY pedalboard out there.
Best of all, Enzo works and plays nicely with other musical endeavors, including vocals, drum machines and even other synths. To truly experience what this pedal is capable of, you need to sit down with it for a couple of days and really put it through the ringer. While you wait for your neighborhood delivery driver to drop yours off on the front porch, you can get a glimpse into Enzo‘s soul by checking out our demo below. This is just a fraction of what this synth can do, but we think it shows the potential that it can have, and just the basic fun that awaits when you plug it in. Cheers to Meris once more, if you don’t know their other pedals, be sure to head to their website for more adventures in sonic mayhem.
