It’s honestly hard to believe there are still guitarists who don’t like fuzz effects – they’re loud, sometimes unpredictable, and add a certain pizazz to your tone that you just can’t get anywhere else. Who wouldn’t like that? To those folks, we say “More For Us!” and quickly find a fuzz to rock out with. Like today’s featured pedal, for example: the Fuzz-Arka from Veri-Tone is simple in design and layout, but boasts so many tonal options and layers of sound, you’d almost have to LOOK to find something you didn’t like about it (we tried; it didn’t happen). Let’s see what this retro-looking gem has in store, shall we?
The Fuzz-Arka has been designed from the ground up, using NOS military-spec Germanium transistors and diodes. The controls are about as easy as it gets: Level controls the overall output volume, Fuzz sets your level of intensity and a Bass Cut switch gets rid of most of the bass frequencies from the input, for a classic 60’s, treble-y fuzz sound that will cut through any mix. The Fuzz knob itself will respond to your playing dynamics as well, for a cleaner sound with lighter picking, and a heavier tone when getting into it and hitting those strings hard.
Named after a Portuguese expression meaning “a ruckus or wild, out-of-control party”, the Fuzz-Arka definitely lives up to its name. Delivering thick, red-hot bottom end, garage-y buzzsaw mids and a top end that cuts like a musical knife, this is another prime example of how handmade pedals have no rival in the effects world.
