Analog Fox Lo-Fi Looper Analog Phrase Sampler

Loopers are just fun. Period. Getting an exact replicated signal for any chord progression, lead run or experimental phrase and repeating it over and over, endlessly, is a true thing of beauty. But, what if you wanted to mix it up a little bit, and make the looped section NOT exactly identical to your original signal? The Lo-Fi Looper from Analog Fox is an analog phrase sampler, meaning it works like a looper, but with that classic analog warm and grit.

The knob layout here is as follows: Rec (recording volume), Play (playback volume) and Dry (volume of the instrument that is played over a recorded loop). There are two footswitches present as well – one for recording, one for playback. There’s an internal trimpot, too, which controls a low pass filter to get rid of some of the unwanted noise (although we kinda like the noise, to be honest). The circuit is based on ISD1020 chip, which uses some kind of patented flash memory that can store sound without digital conversion. It also features a maximum recording time of 20 seconds.

Based on the Madbean Loophole and Dean Hazelwnter’s Mobius Trip Looper, the Lo-Fi Loopergets all up and downright dirty. As with all loopers, there’s a bit of a learning curve to get the timing right, and, although it’s a lot easier to use with your feet, you should still check out our demo video below, hands and all. Even though the signal-to-noise ratio is not great, the sound is thicker than any digital alternative can provide, for sure.
