Sometimes, fantastic things come in small packages. The newest offering from the Greenwood Lake, New York-based company is the Edison, an all-tube EF86 tube preamp pedal with a built-in voltage tripler, once again providing real tube tone with any 9v / 250 ma power source. A bit larger in actual size and perhaps in overall power, the Edison steps up the game and unleashes a sonic fury on any amp that is lucky enough to get in its way.
As you can clearly see, the Edison is powered by an ACTUAL tube. Say what you will about putting tubes into pedals, but we think it is a fantastic idea. The crunchy overdriven sound really shines through here, as it has with the limited number of other pedals that use real tubes we’ve been fortunate enough to demo. Sporting only one lone volume control knob off to the side, just like the Oscar, the focus remains on the beauty and elegance of the pedal’s unique shape, and the center focal point, which is the tube itself. As this knob is increased, so is the sheer magnitude of overdriven glory that is released upon eardrums throughout the land.
The Edison Preamp is perfect front end for your guitar, bass, or recording rig, and it also works wonders for overdriving tube amps or making solid state amps sound fuller.
