We love a clean, tasty, tone-enhancing pedal around here, and compression, while not for everyone, has come to be one of our favorite effects. Today’s pedal is a classic sound from a classic series – the Ibanez CP10 Compressor Sustainer is a high tech, studio quality effect in a compact case, with a VCA circuit and clean compression and sustain. Keeping the control panel light and easy to use, this is one little funk machine that will get your crowd moving…
The Attack knob give your tone some punch, with a slower attack time as you turn the knob up. Sustain adds a bit of length to your signal, giving off a compressed tone reminiscent of the old classic grey Ross Compressor pedals. Level sets the output – use this to match the volume with your original tone, for clarity and continuity. As far as compressors go, too, it’s really quiet, and doesn’t add in any unwanted hiss or noise to your overall sound, which is extremely welcome.
Produced from 1986-1992, the CP10 is part of the famed 10 Series of pedals produced and manufactured by Ibanez, a collection of gear that still stands the test of time, and with one of the stars being this fantastic compressor. Modeled after both the famous Ross and the Armstrong Orange Squeezer, you’d be hard pressed to NOT find an excellent sound coming from this vintage gem.
