With the weekend rapidly approaching, many of you will be exploring new gear and trying to figure out which new, tasty pedal to order while you relax on your off days. If you’re in the mood for something that will warp your mind, bend your soul and spark outrage in your neighbors, then you have definitely come to the right place. The Super Weirdo from our noise-happy German neighbors across the pond, JPTR FX, is the ultimate in weird, and is as inspiring as it is crazy. Labeled as an early 90’s style gated fuzz, this silver and black box unleashes fury and rage the likes of which you have never seen….or heard….
Utilizing a Pulse Width Modulator at its core, the Super Weirdo pulses and grooves like there’s no tomorrow, or maybe like it knows what lies ahead. The main signal is set with your basic Volume and Tone controls, but there’s so much more to this guy. A Feedback knob adds modulation into the base signal, in essence doubling the effect produced, for otherworldly tones around every corner.
The Time Amount knob adjusts the spacing between each of these mod pulses, layering your sound for off-the-wall repeats and exploration, and an Expression pedal input lets you control and attempt to tame the beast hands-free. In case that’s not enough for you, there’s a momentary switch, Glitch, that lets you disrupt your signal with bursts of trippy oscillation, for even more fun and fuzzy sonic adventures.
As with all of the pedals we’ve had the fortune to peruse from JPTR FX, this one is nothing shy of remarkable in its determination to be different, which we absolutely welcome. The Super Weirdo couldn’t be named anything else, or anything better, as the moniker fits the mold here through and through.
