Altough we don’t do it as often as we should, a good bass demo is always a fun way to end a long week. And speaking of bass pedals, the crew at Mantic Effects have been building some low end-inspired pieces of gear for years now, several of which we’ve been fortunate enough to tackle here at Pedal of the Day. Today’s effect might not be as flashy as some of those others, but it’s an important piece to any bass rig, and really helps to bring out a well-rounded sound from your bass setup.
The Thug specializes in adding some low end in where it is needed: after another treble-heavy pedal, as a drive for an amp or even as a tonal thickener to beef up your overall sound. This effect can go from subtle and clean to gritty and bassy, covering a broad spectrum of low frequency boosting ranges. LVL sets the overall output volume of the Thug, while MUSCLE adjusts the actual amount of boost present. These two simple but important controls allow you to dial in the EXACT sound you’ve been searching for, and will adapt to any type of rig or musical setup.
Simple? Yes. Easy to use? Absolutely! Flashy and full of surprises? Well, no, but the Thug is still an extremely useful piece to your sonic pie, making sure you keep the beat pulsing through the fans’ feet, and that you’ll also be able to slice and dice any mix, at any gig, no matter the venue size or capacity. Our demo below goes through some options for you, but this pedal is really suited to help out in each players’ own special scenario, so go and find a Thug from Mantic Effects…..if you can…..
