There are certain series of pedals that seem to really stand the test of time, and stand out themselves, as individuals and as a collective group. The 9 Series and Tone-Lok pedals from Ibanez. Mid-80’s Boss pedals. The late 70’s DOD bigboxes. And, the group we’re going to venture into today: the Hardwire Series from DigiTech. This 10 pedal series featured a wide range of genres to choose from, and today we want to take a look at the DL-8 Stereo Delay/Looper.
For starters, the HardWire pedals are built like absolute tanks, solid as can be and ready to take years and years of stage and studio abuse. The DL-8 features 10 different delay modes (15 ms to 500 ms, 500 ms to 1 sec, 1 sec to 2, 2 sec to 8 sec, Reverse, Modulated, Analog, Slapback, LoFi and Tape), along with infinite stereo looping ability, with overdubs, for up to 20 seconds. Other features include a Tails On/Off switch, Tap Tempo, True Stereo I/O, True Bypass circuitry and constant high-voltage operation for un-compromised signal quality.
In our demo below, we’ve tried to capture and present a hint of what the DL-8 is capable of, but it’s a real sit-down-and-test-for-yourself kind of effect unit. Listen and watch to see it in action, then go out and try to find one (if you can). Discontinued a few years back, these are some of the finest, highest-quality and best-sounding pedals out there, and can usually be found at a bargain price, especially for all they have to offer. The DL-8 Stereo Delay Looper is our first pedal in the series that we’ve check out, and we’re looking forward to getting through them all if we can.
