The Tube Screamer. Iconic. Classic. Overdrive. Green. All of these things it may be, and there have been many copies/recreations that have tried to capture that special tone as well. Today’s pedal uses the famous green monster as a base, then builds on it, adding switches and options to produce a more complete overall unit of sound. The Hangover Overdrive comes to us from Rocket Scientists Electronics, and, as you can clearly see from the graphics, delivers a powerful, chaotic and exciting musical path that is a blast to journey down.
As with other tube screamer pedals, Drive, Tone and Volume make up the usual suspects in the parameter department. That’s about where the similarities end here, folks. Two toggle switches and an additional footswitch take this pedal into another plane of existence, giving you a more well-rounded sound that can fit in with any setup. The first toggle is a mode selector, letting you go between TS808 and TS9, for tonal flavors reminiscent of those 2 classic models, differing slightly in their individual sonic properties.
The second toggle switch works with the second footswitch, Destroy. Once this is engaged, the Hangover instantly puts out more volume, a deeper low end and more gain/clipping via LED diodes. There’s an LED in the face of the graphic that pulses with your playing as well, for a visual as well as auditory experience. The 2nd toggle acts as a volume correction circuit between the stock and Destroy modes, making sure your sound and volume remain right where you need them to be.
Intriguing right from the get-go, the Hangover Overdrive takes the best parts of the Tube Screamer, then adds to them, resulting in a furious drive pedal that will work for any musician and genre you can possibly imagine.
