After the wallop our ears got with the last effort from Mistweaver Effects, the Serpent Fuzz, we were excited and slightly terrified to see what lay in store for their next offering. Fortunately for the decibels, but not the tone quality, the Forestry Overdrive dials it down just a tick, with plenty of gorgeous dirt on tap to bring any amp to its full potential. With a fairly extensive control section and sounds that work in any situation, this overdrive adds sparkle and crunch to any rig you are daring to give it a go at.
The Forestry is Mistweaver’s take on the famous Dumble amp sound, a low-to-mid gain focused drive pedal that features tube-like response and fantastic touch sensitivity across the board. In addition to the usual Volume, Tone and Gain control suspects, this pedal features a Presence knob for added tonal manipulation. Here, you can control the harmonic overtones that are being driven, enabling any amp to sound incredible with just the right amount of high end.
There’s a toggle switch here as well, one that give you two distinct flavors of clipping to choose from. In the Up position, you’re in Symmetrical mode, which offers an organic type of overdrive via some NOS Soviet-era germanium diodes. Flick the switch down to waft into Asymmetrical mode, which gives you a more aggressive and compressed sound, one that works wonderfully with any amp setup.
In short, this thing flat out rocks! There are so many sonic options within this simple control panel that anyone who plays guitar and likes a little crunch to their sound will be in musical heaven. While it is supposed to be focused on the low-to-mid gain range, this puppy SINGS when you crank it, sending your sound into the rock and roll stratosphere, sure to wake any old neighbors or sleeping babies who happen to live anywhere close to your practice space. Cheers once more to the Mistweaver Effects crew for another job fantastically done – we’re so excited to see what they come up with next!
