It’s Day Two of our “Deadbeat Week” here at Pedal of the Day, and brings with it the first of three “Station” effects pedals we’re going to check out. Modulation is always a good time, no matter what type of rig you have or what music you play, so cramming 11 unique modulating effects into one pedal sounds like a pretty rad idea to us. The Modulation Station combines Tremolo, Vibrato, Chorus, Detune, Wah, Filter, Flanger, Tremolo/Flanger, Phaser, Rotary, and Ring Modulation into one, big tasty effects box that’s waiting to be unleashed on the world. Hold onto your hats, kids, this is gonna be a wild ride…
As you journey through each of these Modulation modes, you begin to see just how vast and versatile this pedal truly is. Aside from featuring a ton of different modes, the sounds that it produces really sound good. Pedals in the price range of the Modulation Station, especially ones that have so many sound, tend to try too hard, or cram a bunch of bad effects into one unit as a money-saver. The opposite is true here, however, as this pedal’s modes seem to have been really thought out, researched, developed and perfected before being put into the circuit, and the results are fantastic.
Each mode rolling through the dial seems to get better and better as you go through them. The Filter and Wah modes bring the funk to the forefront, the Chorus and Vibrato stuff sounds analog and vintage as can be, the Tremolo, Flanger and Phaser modes are lush and adventurous as well. Detune could be a bit more pronounced, but still adds a nice nuance to your tone, while the Rotary speaker simulation is wonderful, and the Ring Modulator is just killer, giving you all the blips, bleeps and crazy sounds you’re looking for in that kind of effect.
These “Station” pedals looks really retro, too, adding a distinct flavor to your pedalboard. They seem sturdy and well-built, and exude a simplicity despite having so many sonic options to choose from. The Modulation Station from Deadbeat Sound encompasses all you could want or need in the modulation department, and with just a couple of dials to use, switching sounds on the fly is a cinch. We’re excited to have a couple more pedals to check out for the remainder of this “Deadbeat Week” here at Pedal of the Day, so come back for another one tomorrow (after you watch the demo video below, of course), and be sure to head over to the Deadbeat website as well!
