Today’s featured piece of gear is NOT an effects pedal, but something that is just as important to electrifying your guitar’s signal. Without an amplifier, your pickups would have nothing to send sound to, and your speaker cabinet would not be able to receive sound and project it to the world. That’s where something like the Cobblestone Micro Amp Head from Kartakou Amplification comes in, only this one happens to be just about the size or a regular pedal (if not a little smaller), making it as pedalboard-friendly as any effect in your arsenal….
We used a small speaker cabinet loaded with a 12″ Eminence speaker to test and demo this thing, and it did not disappoint. Harnessing 45 watts of constant power at 8 ohm, the Cobblestone features a 20 – 20,000 Hz frequency response, and runs via a 24V 3A power adapter. The large wheel on the face of this tiny amp is your Master Volume control, with a Tone slider to the left. Here, you start out in the middle position (flat EQ) and can then add highs and cut lows as you slowly raise it to the top position, or go downwards to achieve a low end boost and cut out some of the higher treble frequencies. There’s even an AUX input (a 1/6 Male-to-Male 3ft cable is included) for you to plug in your phone, iPod or any other audio source. This amp has a 100K ohm main input impedance, as well as a 47k ohm AUX impedance.
Measuring just under the size of a standard Boss pedal, the Cobblestone is perfect for adding to any size pedalboard, for easy gigging and transportation. If you’d got a guitar preamp or processor, such as the Line 6 Helix, Fractal AXE FX, Kemper Profiler or Boss ME, this thing is perfect for all of those as well. With a tone of power and output, a simple control section that features a wide array of tones and a size that can’t be matched, the Cobblestone is one excellent addition to any rig.
