Volume starts everything off here, and can be set to match your original signal’s output if you desire. However, if you need an extra bit of oomph or punch, this pedal offers up to +15dB of boost if you need it, to ensure you’re slicing and dicing any mix you get thrown into. The Mids and Sweep controls interact with each other very closely, as one affects the other, so there are lots of settings to explore. Mids either scoops or boosts the midrange frequencies, while Sweep affects the low-mids (to the left) or the high-mids (to the right.
The Sweepable center frequency ranges from 400Hz to 7.5kHz, but there’s even more you can do in this area. A Hi/Lo toggle switch adds another piece to this delicious sonic puzzle, in that you can choose how sharp the frequency peak via the Mids knob will be, like a “Q” type control. Lo offers up a softer, wider and more subtle effect, while Hi is steeper, sharper and more defined.
Even without an overdrive or distortion pedal in front or behind it, the Haunting Mids does an excellent job at driving your favorite tube amp, adding in missing and tasty midrange frequencies to even out and add sparkle to your tone.
