Today’s pedal, an overdrive with a three-knob setup, seeks to to fulfill a need to have an overdrive that was not so thin and lacking like so many others on the market. The Seawolf Overdrive from ToneApparatus FX isn’t trying to create a new effect or genre, just making a damn good overdrive that can be useful to any rig or player in any musical style. It’s also fully customizable, features an additional tonal option and more.
Volume, Tone and Gain aren’t anything new here in the control section, but they do provide a nice range from which to choose your level of power that comes from the Seawolf. There’s a toggle switch here as well, which lets you switch between two different clipping options, creating more auditory enhancement for your listening pleasure. In addition, the Seawolf is fully customizable, letting the buyer choose the jack locations, LED color, knob configuration and more – quite the service for a pedal that will only run you $100.
The tones that can be achieved with the Seawolf are thick and crunchy when turned up and the sweet tones that are made when the grit is down and the level is up is very nice to the ears. It can be used as a dirty boost, a crunchy mid-gainer and a powerful overdrive when cranked up. Simple, easy to use and excellent-sounding, the Seawolf offers what a lot of pedals, especially in this price range, do not, both sonically AND aesthetically. Cheers to this relatively new company for putting their unique stamp on a crowded overdrive market – listen to this beast in action via the demo below, then head over to their Reverb.com shop for an awesome lineup of pedals to choose from!
