Sometimes, a small adjustment to an effects pedal layout can make all the difference. Today’s pedal is a distortion, yes, with the usual trio of controls, but their positioning is instantly a head turner, and as you delve in, you’ll find them to be additional functional, too. The Distortion 1 from LunaStone Pedals also sounds fantastic, everything you want in a high gain rocker, so let’s check it out, shall we?
The controls are simple: Volume, Tone and Distortion. The Tone control really shines here, useful for heavy riffs and full-on high mids with ‘cut through’ voicing, pushing your lead tone through the mix. The Distortion control gives you differing levels of Marshall stack-type sounds, from a crunchy overdrive to ballsy, heavy metal-ish tones. The positioning of the knobs, as we were discussing earlier, is what make LunaStone’s pedals stand out. By having them on an angle, they’re easy to reach with your foot, allowing you to control the Volume and Distortion parameters hands-free in the middle of a song. Something you might not always think about, but once you see how it works, you’ll wonder how you ever got on without it.
Hit your amp hard when using single coils, and absolutely crush it when switching to humbuckers – the Distortion 1 works with both to deliver the searing, powerful punch you need to truly rock out. It also sounds great with either smaller combo amps or large wattage heads and cabs, so no matter your rig, it will fit in like a sonic glove. Cheers to LunaStone Pedals for making such a simple but useful adjustment on their pedals, one that someone probably should’ve thought of a long time ago – we’ve got more of their effects coming down the demo pipeline, so stay tuned, and check out the video below to hear what this orange monster can do!
