NUX Cerberus Integrated Effects and ControllerMulti-effects pedals can be difficult to describe, especially ones as big and functional as today’s featured pedal. The Cerberus from Nux features a TON of effects for you to mix and match, plus so much flexibility and optional sonic ingenuity that it’s hard to put into words (well, words other than the manual). Let’s run through a little bit of what this guy can do, and then take it for a spin in a longer-than-usual demo video.

Right away, you can see the big labels showing you a glimpse of the effects that Cerberus is harnessing. Delay mode features three modes, each with a particular voice, for a slew of echo options and tones that are all extremely useable. A Reverb section appears here as well, and is controlled by the 4th footswitch down at the end of the line (you can assign this switch to control different parameters as well). Use the Delay and Reverb together, or separately, and even switch the order of the two in your signal chain to suit your needs.

Modulation is up next, and features a dedicated Chorus section, as well as three other mod-type effects. The Chorus part again gives you three vintage-ish choral options, each controlled with the Rate, Depth and Level knobs. In the second section, you get to choose from Tremolo, Phaser or Uni-Vibe modes, with simple Depth and Rate controls. Turn down the Level of the Chorus to take it out of the chain, or mix it together with one of the other modes for a huge, modulated experience.

The next two switches control the Distortion and Overdrive effects, each one utilizing Gain (Drive), Tone and Level controls. These have a special voice each, too, plus you can set up differing ways to route these two effects, via two small push buttons up top. There’s a Kill/Dry switch, Cabinet simulator mode and an optional Boost as well, and you can use (as we demonstrate below) an Expression pedal to control the Overall Volume of the entire pedal.

With all of this, there’s still more to come. An entire Preset section lets you scroll through numerous Banks, using the Up/Down switches, then use the A-D switches to select each individual preset. Here, you can use individual effects, or pair two, three, or all of them, for wildly chaotic and exciting combinations that are seemingly endless. Cerberus also offers MIDI control to organize your own effect pedals and improve your effects control at the same time, as well as a ton of different back panel connectivity for any live or studio setting.

NUX LogoWhew! There are a TON of ways to make this pedal work in your favor, and with relatively no hassle. A lot of times, pedals that have this many functions are difficult to control, figure out or use in any way that makes sense. The Cerberus from NUX, however, is intuitive, functional and doesn’t take a rocket surgeon (hehe) to figure out how to use it. Bravo to the NUX effects pedal team for creating a stompbox that can perform so many differing functions, without leaving some users in the dark, and conjuring up a multi-effect that can be utilized by everyone with ease.
