We’re always interested in what our gear-making friends across the pond are up to, and today we’ve got a new company that we’re checking out for the first time. Jānis lv Effect Pedals are straight outta Birzgale, Latvia, and have both a unique look and sound to their effects. With just a couple pedals in their lineup so far, we’re excited to check out the first one, the Miesnieks, a powerful overdrive/distortion that seeks to crush everything in its sonic path….
If you don’t speak Latvian, DON’T WORRY: we went ahead and translated the writing on the pedal for you! First off, Miesnieks translates to “butcher,” and is fitting as this pedal is both beefy and heavy, while still staying smooth and not too harsh, as some distortion pedals tend to do. Skalums controls your Volume, Tonis is a tone control with a HUGE range of sounds and Jauda sets the amount of overdrive that the Miesnieks produces. For good measure, and more tonal flavoring, there’s a Low Gain / High Gain toggle switch that sends this seemingly nice overdrive into ear-shattering distortion territory, all the while retaining that crisp but impactful tone.
Since that’s it for the controls, we’re going to let the demo video below speak for itself, so you can hear just what this monster can do. Jānis lv Effect Pedals are soldered, wired, assembled and finished by hand by Jānis Altmanis, and we couldn’t be happier to get to test one of the first models out here at Pedal of the Day.
