Benson Amps Preamp Guitar Effects Pedal

If you’ve heard one or a hundred or more demos of ours over the last couple years, there’s a good chance the sound you’ve heard was coming from a Benson Amp. The Monarch has been part of our demo setup for a while now, and since we love its sound and tone so much, we were stoked to hear that Chris and the crew were finally putting out a pedal. Now, as far as effects go, “Preamp” isn’t always one that gets your GAS going instantly, but in the case of the aptly-named Preamp pedal from Benson, it should. With a circuit based off of one of Benson’s own amplifiers, this true amp-in-a-box is just what anyone needs to kick their tone into high gear, and extract everything they always wanted to out of their own amp…

The Chimera is a 30W tube amp creation from Benson Amps, and the circuit of this Preamp is based on that. Since it’s fairly tricky to get tubes into a pedal (it has happened, we know), the Preamp uses FET transistors in their place, unleashing all the amp-ish sounds you’ll ever want or need, and ranging from Boost to Overdrive to Fuzz with ease. Volume sets the output, Drive controls the distortion level and Treble and Bass adjust the low and high pass filters, for the perfect EQ section. Four control knobs might not seem like a lot, but there are an absolute TON of different settings you can create and explore here, finding the perfect sweet spot on all four dials to really make your rig come ALIVE!

Rich harmonics, amp-like response and tone for days are the key players for the Preamp – as soon as you plug it in and engage this pedal, you’ll understand exactly what we’re talking about.
