Tattoos and music have gone hand in hand for decades, so it only makes sense to add effects pedals in and make a killer trio, right? Our new pal Joe Halliday from across the pond in the UK has managed to successfully fuse all three of these things together, to create a company offering reasonably-priced effects that look and sound great, perfect for the working musician and up-and-coming bands throughout the globe. Today, we look at the Anchor Drive, a signature pedal with two separate gain stages and a whole lot of tone packed into a custom enclosure. WOW.
The Anchor Drive starts off with a main Master volume control – this sets the overall Output level of the pedal, and works with the 2 Gains to create a wide array of tonal flavors. With the gains turned down, this control lets you garnish a clean boost-type of tone, completely transparent and an excellent always-on effect. Slowly turn up the first Gain control to get into crunchy, classic overdriven rock territory with ease, a perfect way to drive your amp as well. Add in some of the 2nd Gain control, and the Anchor Drive turns into a full-on distorted powerhouse, even venturing into fuzz territory with both of the Gains cranked and the Master Volume up at a fairly decent level.
No frills, no thrills, just a bad-ass drive pedal, the Anchor Drive has something for everyone. Plus, the fact that Joe prides himself on making affordable, boutique gear is an excellent reason to contact him for any job you need. Custom artwork, funky circuitry, unique one-offs…he can do it all, all without having to mortgage your house to have a great-sounding pedalboard. Check out the demo below to hear the Anchor Drive in action (and notice the special logo addition to this particular pedal!), and then head over to the Hello Sailor website for details on how to contact Joe to get the pedal of your dreams up and running.
