When a pedal describes itself as a Phaser, our interest is automatically peaked. Now, not everyone loves the phaser effect, for whatever reason, but then a pedal comes along that changes the game, and could possibly make a whole slew of haters into converts after they hear it in action. That pedal has arrived today, folks: the Arctic Wolf from Dogmatek Effects Pedals is a twin modulator phaser, but is also a ring modulator, tremolo, boost and Leslie cabinet all wrapped in one, complete with EIGHT Presets, stereo ins and outs, external control and much, much, MUCH more…

First of all, this thing appears to have been taken out of a control panel on the USS Enterprise – extremely futuristic and sleek-looking, we were mesmerized before we even plugged it in. As you engage the effects, a giant green light begins pulsing and throbbing, sending you instantly down a wild journey into the auditory unknown. Adjust the speed of the phase via the Rate knob (or with an external expression pedal), use Gain to drive the signal, from unity to +18dB of boost, and turn the Feedback knob up to garner a more intense phase sound. Now it’s time to get into the craziness of the Arctic Wolf…..you ready?

The Config button lets you set the Input and Output configurations, with 4 differing Mono and Stereo options to suit the needs of ANY amp or recording setup. The Symmetry control adjusts the Rise and Fall times of the waveform, with either sharp rise and slow fall, or vice versa. Choose from 4, 6 or 12 phasing stages with the Stages button, Multiply your tap tempo speed by up to 16 times and use the Shape button for five differing waveform modes: Triangle, Square, Sine, S/H (random; robotic) or Manual. The Upper and Lower control knobs set how long the waveform stays at the top or bottom before returning to phase as well.

You want more! YOU GOT IT! The Arctic Wolf also features EIGHT preset slots you can fill, which can be selected via the (Tap) Recall switch, or via an external footswitch for easy scrolling. There are CV IN and CV Out jacks located around back as well, letting you connect an external Control Voltage (LFO) for opening up even more possibilities. Conjure up sounds ranging from classic Pink Floyd-ish pulses to wild, ear-piercing ring modulation, gorgeous Leslie-type rotary speaker tones and more.
