Big. Black. Bold. Bowerful. Well, maybe not that last one, but the others (and Powerful) definitely describe the lineup of pedals produced by Wounded Paw Audio. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure to check out their Battering Ram Overdrive/Fuzz, Echo Drive and, most recently, the Black Wolf, a massive distortion for guitar AND bass. Today, we’ve got another creation of theirs for you: the Bighorn Overdrive. A little less on the crazy controls than the others, this straight(ish)-forward drive is cinch to dial in, and a ton of fun to crush your amp’s front end with.
Volume, Treble and Drive are the three parameter knobs on the Bighorn, each spouting out its own function and tone. Volume does what it should, sending plenty of final overdrive volume to the output. Treble adds in or takes out the high end frequencies, and may need a bit of adjustment as you increase the gain. Speaking of which, the Drive knob adds in the gain/distortion, with a huge range going from clean to crunch to heavy metal. The Bass toggle switch disables the active high pass filter on the Drive, allowing a full frequency range for bass, or to add more low end to any instrument you choose.
Another effects pedal that works well with both guitar and bass, the Bighorn is a big deal in a small package. Perfect to fit onto any size pedalboard, the minimal real estate space it takes up will certainly put it into the plus factor for many players, and once you hear it (see demo video below), you’ll never want to turn it off. A resounding cheers to Preston and the Wounded Paw Audio crew for another gorgeously loud and awesome creation – stay tuned for more of their pedals passing through the shop soon….
