Here’s a good recipe for sonic success: take a Delay pedal, make it TWO delays in one and the ADD in an independent Reverb section….sound good so far? Well, that’s about all you really need, and our Featured Pedal today just happens to showcase all of these features. The Twin Whales from Mammouth Machine has two separate delay lines, running in parallel, plus a lone footswitchable reverb portion to add in all the glorious ambience you can handle. Strap yourselves in, ’cause here we go….
Now, for a pedal with this many knobs and footswitches, the Twin Whales is really fairly easy to operate. Since both Delay sides feature the same controls, you can maneuver around smoothly and slickly, hopping from one delay to the other to explore new settings and conjure up new sounds. Delay controls the delay time, Repeat (R) sets the number of times the delay echoes, from one to infinite and Mix (M) blends your original dry signal and the delay effect together to taste. The lone Reverb knob controls the amount of reverberation present in the signal, and is only active when the Reverb switch has been pressed. A big powerhouse of a pedal, the enclosure itself takes up a rather small amount of space, considering all that it is hiding inside.
Run one delay. Run two delays. Run one delay with a bit of reverb. Run two delays, set at differing times, with a ton of reverb. The possibilities here are truly endless, and make for one fun and exciting machine to delve into and examine to your heart’s content. Add in a volume pedals for some swells, and even a bit of dirt, and you’re going to blow away anyone who is lucky enough to hear you using this thing. Congrats to the crew at Mammouth Machine for another brilliant and innovative effect – be sure to check out our review and demo for their 8Bit-Tron if you haven’t already, as well as our tasty demo video below for the Twin Whales, and the Mammouth website to see how to get your hands on this gear. Cheers!
