Strange, unusual, sonically inventive, eardrum pummeling….we love pedals like these, and have a great one for you today. The Dream Reaper is a fuzzy modulation machine from Adventure Audio, and while that description might not tell you EXACTLY what this pedal is all about, it’s a good thing. Exploration and experimenting are what you do with a pedal like this, and we did just that many times over, trying to coax out new sounds and unleash this orange beast’s inner demon. Let us tell you, first hand: this thing does NOT disappoint….
The sheer amount of knobs and switches look daunting, but once you figure them out, you can (sort of) tame the Dream Reaper. Full of fuzz gooeyness and filtered bliss, all of the controls (explained in the demo video below) work together to form the soundscaped canvas onto which you can create, each one adding in a new little nugget of adventure as you delve into the abyss that awaits. Switch into Dream mode for some tasty oscillation stuff, and you can even control the Filter parameter via an external expression pedal, for on-the-fly adjustment and fun.
This one is tricky to describe, so we’re going to let the demo do most of the talking. Knob-fiddlers, sound junkies and creative types will love this pedal; blues players and pop artists, maybe not so much. Not for everyone, but those who dig it will REALLY dig it, as we did, just like the last pedal from Adventure Audio we were knocked out by, the Demogorgon Fuzz Tremolo Reverb. These guys keep pushing the limits of what an effects pedal can be, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next…
