Have you ever been truly, genuinely and pleasantly surprised by an effects pedal? Recently, we had the chance to check out a pedal from Danelectro’s Billionaire lineup, the Big Spender Spinning Speaker, and it really threw us for a loop (in a good way), so we were super-excited to test out another in this series of effects. The Cash Cow is a simple overdrive pedal (or so it seems) with an easy to use control section and small, pedalboard-friendly enclosure. Its real strength, however, lies with what lurks inside….
Aiming to reproduce the sound of a 100-watt amp stack, the Cash Cow is riddled with a wide array of tones and levels. The Volume produces a TON of output, typical of what you’d expect from a 100-watt’er. The Treble and Bass controls let you fine tune your EQ, getting dark and dirty if you want, bright and cutting if need be, and a slew of other setting across the spectrum. Gain rules all in this pedal, rising from a slight bit of dirt to chunky, pulsing overdrive to almost distortion-like territory when cranked, complete with a boatload of sustain and ear-ringing glory.
The Billionaire lineup of effects pedals is extremely affordable, but the tones produced will work well with everything from a DS-1 to an original Klon, adding sparkle, shimmer and shine to your tone, all without breaking the bank. Pedals in this price range are usually kind of hit or miss, but it seems clear that the Danelectro crew has put in some real time and effort to ensure EVERYONE can have killer tone, regardless of ability or economic status, so kudos to you guys for that. Plus, the Big Spender and now Cash Cow sound just awesome, rivaling effects that cost 3-4 times as much, and producing sounds that will inspire and awe anyone who hears them.
