A couple weeks back, we reviewed a pedal from do-it-yourselfers MOD Kits DIY, the Suspended Chime Chorus Delay, and were pleasantly surprised by how good an inexpensive pedal could sound. Well, we’re back with another one of theirs today, the Verb Deluxe, a reverb with a basic layout and controls, but with a lot of soul and character to share with the world. If you’re looking for an extra little sparkle to add to your tone, this might just be the pedal you’ve been looking for.
As you can see right away, the control section on the Verb Deluxe is minimal, with just 2 knobs controlling 2 parameters. On the left, Mix lets you dial in the amount of the effect you want placed into your signal path. On the Right, Dwell adjusts the amount of reverb present, and this one has a pretty good range on it, too. Mixing these two up in different settings will provide you with just a hint of echo, long drawn-out and cavernous reverb and a whole lot in between.
Built around the Belton Digi-Log Mini Module, the Verb Deluxe is overflowing with reverb potential. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of some more popular and famous reverbs out there at the moment, it’s absolutely not trying to, being comfortable in its own reverberated skin….and it shows. Crank both controls up, and you’re about to get lost in a sea of reverb, overtaken by a “tidal wave of sonic reflections,” as MOD Kits DIY so eloquently states. Thanks to those guys again for letting us check the Verb Deluxe out – they’ve got a wide array of do-it-yourself pedal kits to build, be sure to check ’em out if you’ve been thinking about some effect experimentation!

I built one of these a few years ago. It’s and excellent sounding reverb. It’s very adjustable and works well for amps with no reverb. Sounds more like a rackmount than a pedal reverb.

It does have a nice range for such a simple pedal, uh? Sounds great, agreed!
