We love seeing effects arrive at the shop from smaller pedal companies who are up-and-coming in the game, and we are going to check out a scorcher of a fuzz today. Andrew and Tori from MidValleyFX have built the Go To Fuzz, and aptly-named distortion that could just be the one effect in your rig you rely on the most moving forward. Simple and powerful, this gated beauty can conjure up classic and distinguished tones, while re-inventing the genre and forging a new path down the sonic highway.
Volume starts things off, controlling the output of the Go To Fuzz. Sustain sets your distortion – turn to the left for cool dying battery, zippy fuzz tones, and as you increase the level, you’ll get into heavy, gated fuzz territory, where all bets are off. The Tone toggle is something special here, too – to the left is a treble-cutting, ripping and searing crunch tone type-of-thing, and to the right is a treble-boosting, tonal-shifting excursion. While the controls seem simple, there are many differing settings and combinations to be explored, with pretty much all of them being useful in some capacity.
As you’ll hear in the demo video below, the Go To Fuzz might not be for everyone, but those of us that don’t mind our eardrums bleeding a little will be in glorious, fuzz-laden heaven. This thing is loud, heavy and unapologetic, just the way any good distorted fuzz pedal should be, so DEAL WITH IT. Cheers to the cats at MidValleyFX for this awesome debut pedal we get to test out – we’ve got more of their gear on the way, so stay tuned, and don’t forget to head over to their website for more info and gear!
