Full disclosure: we are digging the lineup of pedals coming our way from the folks over at ModTone Effects. These simple, affordable and great-sounding pieces of gear fit every musical style and playing type, as well as fitting onto any pedalboard AND fitting any size budget, big or small. The next one we’ve got for you today is the Bohemian, an overdrive/distortion that purrs and growls with the best of ’em, and will make your amp hungry for more.
The simple controls are as follows: Volume, Tone and Drive. Pretty basic, but they get the job done, for sure. The Bohemian seeks to emulate the sounds that come from classic British amplifiers, going from a slight bit of grit to medium saturation to big overdriven bliss. Working equally well as either your main drive or as a boost for your tube amp, this thing makes your tone come alive and sparkle. There’s a toggle switch here as well, which acts as a kind of top boost, pushing the distortion up a notch just when you need it the most.
The creamy overdriven sounds that pour out of the Bohemian are somewhat unexpected, but are also starting to become the norm with all of the effects we see from ModTone. If you’re looking for a great way to get that classic Brian May sound on the cheap, this red glittery little guy is exactly what you need.
