Happy 4/20, kiddos! We’ve got a pedal today that seeks to build upon an already existing design, giving you two different sounding but equally incredible pedals to choose from (who are we kidding, you’ll probably buy both). The original Warped Vinyl Analog Vibrato Chorus from Chase Bliss Audio was a monster modulation pedal in its own right, as was the subsequent MkII version, which took things up a notch. Their new brother HiFi adds in some more options, modified tones and a whole new set of knobs and dip switches to explore and create with.
While the basic layout remains similar to past models of the Warped Vinyl, there are some new things to investigate (click here for our review of the MkII and all the original information). The Volume knob has been replaced by the Lag knob, which adjusts the delay time between the Wet and Dry signals. As this control is turned up, the latency is increased, resulting in a more lush-sounding chorus effect. There’s also an increase in noise as well, which can be either a little unwanted, or turn into a creative outlet for your noise-making musical adventures.
This version remains a “true pitch” pedal, one with an all-analog signal path. Like the other pieces of gear in the CBA lineup, only the control of the parameters are digital, which leaves your input signal 100% analog, pristine and warm all over. The MIDI integration keeps getting better and better with these effects as well, allowing for preset recalling, MIDI clock message response, control change messages and more, to really unlock the secrets of the CBA family of pedals, and open up any and every sonic possibility you could ever imagine.
Boasting less overall noise, brighter tones, some new controls and that classic Chase Bliss functionality, the Warped Vinyl HiFi is nothing short of a spectacular piece of gear, as it seems to be with all the effects these guys are putting out. The HiFi is a bit more transparent, too, letting you really add on the layers to taste, and dial in exactly what you need to use it for with your own sound and setup. Cheers to Joel and the CBA crew once again – you probably know they’ve got another new pedal out recently, and one more on the way, so check back for our reviews and demos of those shortly as well!
