Do you need a little funk in your music, or your life, but don’t like things super-clean or proper? Have you always wanted to venture into the world of auto-wahs and filters, but never found just the right pedal to make the leap? The Cock Fight from Electro-Harmonix incorporates elements of wah, fuzz, and filters to create a uniquely-voiced effects pedal, one that’s certain to make your head turn and your body bust into a dance.
There’s a lot going on control-wise here, so let’s jump right in. Volume sets the master output level, while Freq adjusts the frequency of the filter selected by the Cry/Talk toggle switch (Cry emulates a typical wah-type of sound, while Talk gives you a more vocal-sounding filter tone). The Tone knob adjusts the frequency of the Fuzz section, with darker fuzz to the left and a brighter fuzz to the right. Drive sets the amount of fuzz the pedal produces.
A second toggle switch gives you the ability to set the order of the effects; Pre places the fuzz BEFORE the filter, Post puts it AFTER and Fuzz Off, well, turns the fuzz off. The small Bottom knob is a low end boost control, helping to add in some of the frequencies that traditionally get lost in a lot of wahs and filters, while the small Bias knob lets you set the amount of bias voltage going to a transistor in the fuzz circuit.
There’s an external expression pedal jack as well here, which enables you to control the Freq setting hands-free, for fun on-the-fly adjustment on stage or in the studio. Two fun effects in one, the Cock Fight from EHX uses two different and expressive filters to produce some funky auto wah tones, while adding in the fuzz aspect for a new and exciting all-around pedal.
