After being able to check out the revered White Pedal from Jext Telez, we were excited to see what dirty effect they had for us this go-round – color us impressed again. The Buzz Tone is a germanium fuzz that also has trace elements of overdrive packed right in, for an all-encompassing tonal spectrum of sounds. The easy controls hide a wide dimension of tones, and the secret weapon here really pushes the envelope on what a vintage fuzz could and should sound like.
The goal of the Buzz Tone was to emulate the Syd Barrett/early Pink Floyd tones, which were produced decades ago with classic effects. Part Fuzz Face/Uni-Tone, part Tone Bender and all gnarly and nasty, this puppy has just two control knobs, for easy setting and forgetting. Depth gives you the chance to set how much fuzzy drive you want mixed into your signal path, and Volume lets you get it to your amp with no problem whatsoever. The special sauce on this guy is a three-way toggle switch, letting you go from 3V to 6V to 9V, with each mode producing different audible luxuries. The 3V setting gives off a lower register and squishier tones, while 9V sends your sound into fuzz-filled, super-charged heaven. Want the best of both worlds? Switch it to 6V and listen to your amp sparkle and shine.
The germanium transistors used in the Buzz Tone are vintage and era-correct – if you’re a big fan of ‘Piper at the Gates of Dawn,” then you are not going to want to miss out on this hidden gem of rock purity. The full-range distortion is extremely amp-like, making it a great match for whatever rig you’re currently running, and able to push any amp to psychedelic glory.
