Bogner Amplification Burnley DistortionAs it turns out, our first foray into the world of effects pedals from Bogner Amplification is a good one. The Burnley Distortion features a simple control setup, transformer design by one of the most famous audio pioneers in the business and an LED that reacts to your playing. What else could you possibly need from a slick, purple, monster of a dirt pedal? You’re correct: nothing.

Assembled with a 100% analog circuit, the Burnley Distortion delivers a wide range of sounds, from warm and tasty overdriven crunch to full-blown, high-gain annihilation types of tones. Along with the Level, Gain and Tone controls, this beast features a special, custom transformer designed by Rupert Neve, the famous British electronics engineer and entrepreneur. Inspired by the dynamic sounds of the Neve mixing consoles, which can be heard on countless classic records going back decades, this thing delivers studio-quality sound not typically found in stompbox form.

There’s an additional adjustment section on the Burnley as well, in the form of a small toggle switch. Labeled F/T, there are two modes you can choose from. “F” gives you a fatter, more mellow type of sound, while “T” produces tight, punchy and heavier, more aggressive tones. Both of these modes interact perfectly with the three controls, for a broad range of distorted sounds waiting to be unleashed from the depth of this purple people eater.

Not that this will affect the sound produces or how you play, but it is still a fun little feature that sets the Burnley apart from most other distortions. Soaring lead tones, thick and present midrange and singing sustain are just a few things you can easily coax out of this pedal, not to mention the amazing studio quality sound that will wash over your tone. Thanks to Bogner Amplification for letting us peruse this great-sounding, dynamic pedal – we’re excited to check out the other effects in this series, so stay tuned, and be sure to watch the demo:
