There are a ton of great reverb pedals on the market right now, so you’ve got to do something to stand out from the pack to succeed. The crew at JHS Pedals is pretty good at that in general, and today’s pedal is no exception. The Spring Tank Reverb not only provides lush, amp-type spring reverb tones, but gives you a second channel from which to select for a different reverb depth at any given moment.
The two independent and switchable reverb mixes are activated via the two soft footswitches on the Spring Tank. Hitting Bypass activates the effect, and enables the setting from the Tank 1 knob. The bright red knob labeled Tank 2 is not easy to miss, and hitting it will activate the second channel. Setting these two at differing points creates two distinct reverb sounds, and the easy layout and switching capabilities make it a cinch to toggle back and forth between the two.
As for other control parameters on the Spring Tank, Boost starts things off by controlling the overall output volume, while Highs allows adjustment of the overall Tone. Depth controls the size of the room, while Length lets you set how long the effects reverberates. There’s an Effects Loop jack on the side as well, letting you add in other effects to the reverb tails only, expanding the sonic prowess of this little machine. You can even select (via an internal switch) to have the Effects Loop only active on Tank 2 if you’d like, giving you even more control over your complete sound.
We dig a nice reverb here at Pedal of the Day, and when you have one that sounds this good and has this many options, it’s sure to jump right into our ‘Win’ column. For anyone seeking two distinct flavors of reverb, but not wanting a huge, pedalboard real-estate-eating monster, the space-saving Spring Tank Reverb will be a perfect fit. As always, cheers to JHS Pedals and their crew for another lovely creation – check out this beauty and more of their signature lineup on their website NOW!
