After we brought you our review of the first pedal in the Animals Pedal lineup, the Rust Rod Fuzz, we now bring you the second out of five total pedals. The Car Crush is a Chorus and Vibrato pedal, an excellent modulation device that gives you the ability to span different musical eras and decades with ease. Tap into your inner Jimi with the click of a button, create sounds from the Summer of Love and even morph your sound to fit modern rock and roll in a heartbeat.
Depth starts off the control section, and acts as an intensity control, giving you as much or as little of the effect as you desire. Rate sets the speed of the modulation effect, and Color acts as a tone control, fine-tuning the frequency response to your liking. There’s a small toggle switch present here, too, allowing for selection of either the Chorus or Vibrato modes.
The Chorus portion gives you some nice, warm, lush chorus tones, getting back to a bit of the New Wave sound popular in the ’70s and ’80s, ranging from artists like Rush and the Police to U2 and Nirvana, and more. The Vibrato portion really goes back to the ’60s, bringing on a special and intelligent-sounding Uni-Vibe tone, which works wonders when paired with a good overdrive or distortion pedal. Compact and easy to use, the Car Crush takes away all of the hassles and great expenses of trying to find, purchase and maintain an original Uni-Vibe, with astonishingly good reproduction of its sound.
You can even coax some reverb-type tones out of this grey-blue beauty, making it a pedal that will have many applications in your rig. Able to slide into any pedalboard configuration in a second, the effects lineup of Animals Pedal pedals are affordable, but without sacrificing tone or quality. Thanks to all from the company for another great pedal creation – we’ve got three more left to review and demo after the Car Crush, so stay tuned!
