Sometimes we here at Pedal of the Day stumble across a relatively unknown, hard-to-find-info-on pedal that really rocks our world, and we’re going to check one of them out today. The Dynamic Delay from Tone Monster is an excellent delay that we acquired for less than $50, and it can hold its own with some of the big boys in the delay world, make no mistake. Simple and elegant, with a couple fun functions, this white wizard looks and sounds clean, like a great digital delay should.
Designed with the thought that your tone’s warmth should come from a preamp/overdrive pedal, or your amp itself, the Dynamic Delay is specifically engineered to be a descendant of the classic rack mounted digital delay unites of the early 1980s. Offering studio quality sound inside a small stompbox, this effect is a straightforward, crisp, clean delay that works great on stage or in the studio. As with all delay effects, tone and usability are subject to individual taste, but the Dynamic Delay has something for just about everyone.
Level, Repeat and Delay are the controls present, each featuring big sweeps of range for creating numerous and unique sounds. A delay time ranging from 25ms – 460ms doesn’t necessarily offer the length needed for some players, but will work wonders for slap back sounds, beefing up your rhythm tone a bit and punching out some fat lead runs as well. In addition, there’s a toggle switch that allows you to select from two different delay modes. Standard acts as a normal delay, as you’d expect from the name, but Infinite is where it really opens up. In this mode, the delays self-oscillate and keep going and going and going, perfect for on-stage segues between songs, a powerful ending to your set, or even some special magic in the studio.
No longer in production, and the company apparently isn’t even making pedals anymore, the Dynamic Delay is already a rare gem in a sea of effects, and with it’s still-low price point, an affordable one, too. Nothing too fancy, not too many bells and whistles, but just enough options and superb sound to make you turn your head and say, “What pedal is that?” If you come across one, don’t think twice and grab it up – who knows, maybe someday it will be a collector’s item…
