Today’s featured pedal will not only enhance your tone and drive either a tube or solid state amp, but proceeds from its sales help to fund a family farm in Maine as well. The Casco Logger is the first pedal from our new friends at Farm Pedals that we’ve had the privilege to demo and review, and this simple orange box made quite an impression on us. A simple overdrive, it can be used as a great clean boost as well, and all-around excellent tone-shaper for just the sound you’ve been searching for.
Named after the old high school moniker in Casco, Maine, the Loggers, this burnt orange beast comes at you with a tame fierceness, if that makes sense. It’s a transparent yet gritty overdrive, capable of driving a tube amp with ease, but also giving solid state amps a tube-like sound and presence. The three controls, Volume, Tone and Gain, do their respective jobs well, as is expected from a good drive pedal. The Gain has a big, wide open range, making it excellent for clean boosting and chunky overdrive tones alike. This pedal is meant to represent the logging spirit that has been a part of Casco for generations – gritty, transparent, driven….and a little boosted in the mid-section.
Like we said earlier, sales from these pedals help keep the Hancock Family Farm in western Maine running strong and smooth, and we believe that it’s always important to support businesses that go above and beyond for their communities. Not to mention the fact that this pedal is an excellent start to discovering all that their effects lineup has to offer. We have one more pedal of theirs to review in the coming weeks, and hopefully more after that, as we want to help get the word out about these guys, and draw some attention to what they’re doing in the great Northeast. Cheers to all at Farm Pedals for doing what they do – be sure to check out their Reverb.com shop for more pedals, and be sure to watch the demo video below as well!
