Today, we’re checking out something a little different from our normal pedal reviews: a wireless guitar system. From Xvive Audio comes the U2 Rechargeable 2.4GHz Wireless Guitar System, a pair of wireless adapters that let you run all the stage laps and crowd-pleasing jaunts you want, without losing your signal quality or strength. This is a completely different design than we’ve seen before, so let’s check it out!
What stands out right off the bat is the design of the transmitter and receiver – seemingly made to embrace the shape of any guitar, we tried them out on a Strat, a PRS CE, a Tele and a Les Paul, all to our immense delight. The way the plug fits perfectly and then the base folds into almost any position you need is a stroke of genius, and since they’re not very bulky, once you plug in you can forget about it even being there, and just go on with the show.
We tested the range as best we could as well, and the U2 performed marvelously all the way down to the entire lower level of our office, which definitely bodes well for being 10-20 or so unobstructed feet away from your rig on a stage. Granted, we didn’t test it in a live setting with other wireless gizmos surrounding it, but it seems to be up to the challenge, and had a really clear signal throughout the office as we put it through the ringer. The 4-5 hours of battery life on a single charge seems to be pretty accurate, as we used it on multiple occasions over multiple days, with zero problems. The Xvive description says not to use it with Active pickups, but we didn’t have any of those to test, so it wasn’t an issue.
