For a number of years now, the folks at Pigtronix have been pushing, pulling and re-working the Delay genre with their lineup of echo devices, and we’re going to take a gander at one of the newest ones today. The Echolution 2 Filter Pro is an extremely flexible, option-filled, preset-ridden, multi-tap stereo modulation delay, that’s capable of more than you could care to imagine. However, if you DO think big, and want your gear to do the same, you just might need to grab this pedal…
While this pedal looks complicated, well, it is. BUT…you can sit down with it and start getting great sounds in about 5 seconds as well. As with all pedals of this magnitude, there’s a learning curve, for sure, but once you get it dialed in, it’s a real treasure and a joy to experiment and create with. Repeats, Mix and Time do everything you think they would, and with a delay range of 10ms to 10 FULL seconds, there’s enough echo action for anyone to utilize. Speed and Depth control the incredible modulation portion of the Filter Pro, which provides an exponential amount of both vintage and modern sounds, encapsulating the warmth and grittiness of delay of decades past, while embracing and utilizing the modern advances for richer, fuller sounds.
The Preset section is mainly what we’ve focused on for the demo video below – with the capacity to store up to SIXTY (yes, 60) presets, the Echolution 2 Filter Pro has every song and every riff, chord progression and lead tone covered…and then some. Using either manual control via a knob or the Tap switch, you can select the exact tempo you need for any situation, and that switch also doubles as a Preset selector, making it easy to seamlessly flow through the gorgeous echo sounds you’ve created, and apply them to any musical situation. You also have access to Bit Crushing, Reverse Delays, Ping Pong, Shimmer, Freeze and more effects than you’ll know what to do with, plus MIDI control, USB connectivity to save and share your favorite presets and more.
Not for the faint of heart, or really for anyone that doesn’t like to read manuals, this Echolution 2 Filter Pro is yet another magnificent specimen in the Pigtronix lineup of delays, and one that is an absolute blast to explore and experiment with. Like any other newer, digital-based, options-filled delay pedals, there’s going to be a bit of a learning curve for everyone, but once you have it dialed in, the sky will truly be the limit.
