Gurus Amps Echosex 2 Delay EchoWho likes delay and echo? “WE LIKE DELAY AND ECHO!” Of course you do, silly. Today’s pedal is an incredible recreation of one of the most famous echo units ever created, the Binson Echorec. This classic delay unit created in the 1950’s was made famous by bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hawkwind and the Chemical Brothers. The folks at Gurus Amps have created their take on this magical machine, and today we delve into it to see what all the fuss is about: this is the Echosex 2.

The Volume Echo knob lets you set the overall output volume when the Echosex is engaged, and the actual Echo knob controls the delay time itself, with a range of 60ms up to 660ms (about twice as much as the Binsons could produce), perfect for those classic Echorec delay recreations. The Length of Swell control allows you to adjust the number of repeats the effect gives off, from a single repeat to infinity, great for long, ambient-types of music, and for some stellar noise creation. Bass-Treble is your basic Tone control for the Echosex, and applies only to the repeats, keeping your original signal tube-analog and sharp.

Age of Damage is an interesting and über-welcome control addition to this pedal, as it reproduces the actual wearing out of the mechanical parts on the old Binson units. This produces a wide range of modulation tones, creating pitch shifting and detuned sounds throughout this knob’s full sweep, again adding to the sonic options and faithful reproduction the Echosex 2 provides. On the side, there are 4 Dip Switches as well, enabling further manipulation and characterization of the pedal. There’s a factory setting, an Effect Fade-Out setting, and even a -10dB Tube Preamplifier setting for use with keyboards, active pickups and more, making this unit excellent not just for guitar, but other instruments and studio work as well.

Plus….there’s a REAL 12AX7B tube inside, giving you all the warmth and analog echo goodness those old echoes produced, and making it an excellent preamp, too. Spaced-out, 3D, sci-fi sounds just pour out of the Echosex 2, and if you’re trying to emulate that “One of These Days” or “Echoes“-type of David Gilmour sound, you can now do it spot-on, without all the hassle, cleaning and upkeep (not to mention the pricetag) of an original Binson Echorec. This magnificent pedal from Gurus Amps holds the key to many musical discoveries, and couldn’t have been for fun to review and demo: check out the video below for some of what it can do, and we’ll see you back in the ’70’s!
