There are pedalboard-friendly pedals, and then there are pedals from Henretta Engineering. These guys take it to a whole new level, throwing all the controls (via trimpots) into enclosures that only measure 2-1/8″ x 2-5/16″, making them the ultimate small sized pedal. Today’s feature pedal of theirs is no different from others we’ve reviewed in the past, except that its a bad-ass delay, and it’s bright red. The Red Brick has a surprising amount of tones for such a small box, and we’re going to show you what’s what right now…
Once you take off the back of the pedal, make sure to check the manual so you know which trimpot controls which parameters, and once you’ve got that down, you’re golden. Time controls delay time, up to 450ms when maxed out, while Repeats sets the, uh, repeats. This particular control is exciting and fun, as it is affected by where the next trimpot, Tone, is set. When theTone is up at higher levels, it adds some gain into the tone of the repeats, driving them into self-oscillation even at low settings. Very fun to play around with these two controls, trust us. Finally, Level acts as a single volume control for the effect, but doesn’t alter your dry signal one bit.
Using a PT2399 digital delay chip, the Red Brick offers some great slap back delay settings, as well as a little more time if you need it, great for solos and lead runs, or just making some rad noises with your guitar. You can also get versatile types of sounds by using the trimpots, from classic analog to tape delay, even getting into ’80’s rackmount unit territory, if that’s your fancy. We love these tiny pedals, and we love Kevin and Henretta Engineering for sending us another one to check out. If you need a set of powerful pedals, but don’t have a big pedalboard (or budget), then head over to their website and see all the crazy creations they’ve got waiting just for you!
