We reviewed a pretty cool pedal here at Pedal of the Day a while back, from a manufacturer in Germany, and while we couldn’t read the labels on the control knobs, we discovered that it was a great piece of gear nonetheless. Well, we’re back at it again, and today we’ve got another pedal from our German friends Orion Effekte. The De Luxe Motor Fuzz is a great little fuzz pedal with a bunch of options, tones and fuzzy gooiness for days.
This golden beauty is really cool-looking, first of all, kind worn down and vintage-esque, but classy at the same time. The control panel up top consists of Pegel (Volume), Klang (Tone), Verzerrung (Sustain) and Dampfung (Gain), which are familiar controls, but not always seen in this combination in a fuzz pedal. The Gain knob actually controls the overall INPUT gain of the pedal, letting you basically mix in your instrument’s input signal with the fuzz, for a super-unique sound, that lets you really dial in exactly how much of the effect you want present.
There’s also a small toggle switch on the De Luxe Motor Fuzz as well, which you can position in one of two modes. Mode I is the regular Motor Fuzz mode, which sounds just great, and will work for any fuzz sound you need. Mode II brings things up a little bit, adding in a dirtier, rougher sound, for those heavier, doomy low-end fuzz tones. These are both excellent sonically, and with a little experimentation with the rest of the control panel, will allow you to find almost any fuzz tone you can imagine.
We really dug the Distortion General pedal when we recently reviewed it, and now the De Luxe Motor Fuzz comes along and is equally impressive. The crew across the pond at Onion Effekte seem to really know what they’re doing, and we can’t wait to check out some more of their gear in the near future. Thanks again to the Orion guys – if you’re looking for some interesting and phenomenal-sounding pedals, be sure to give their website a gander.
