Sometimes, the simplest, plain-looking pedals will really throw you for a loop when you plug them in. For example, today’s featured pedal, the Gritt Fuzz from Marx Effects, does just that. With a basic design layout and minimal aesthetic to distract you, this little black box packs a wallop of sounds into a tiny and unassuming enclosure.
There are only two control knobs present here: the Left side is a Gain knob, and the Right side is volume. The Gain knob has a great range, even going so far as to camouflage as a boost with a slight bite. When cranked, the Gritt creates a giant was of buzz and fuzz, and as you adjust the output Volume to taste, you’ll be sure to slice and dice any mix you could imagine.
The Gritt is also unique in another way: power. Bucking the trends of most modern pedals and harkening back to effects of the past, it is ONLY powered by a 9V battery. Now, some might shy away from such a travesty, but just remember, most of the power supplies out there come with a special cable you can hook up to a battery cable (and if not, they’re like $3), so your pedalboard can remain in tact. Or, you can use it in conjunction with other battery-powered pedals, to cut down on the cables strewn all over the stage.
This fuzz reacts very well with your playing dynamics, as well as cleaning up nicely with your guitar’s volume control, for easy transitions from cleanish to fuzzy in a second. A no fuss, no muss effects pedal, this thing gives you a lot of range for such a simple layout, and will get your tone and your crowd pumped up and ready to rock.
