Sometimes, you don’t actually have to spend a ton of cash to get a great-sounding pedal…no, seriously! Today’s featured pedal, the Mind Bender Vibrato/Chorus from BBE Sound proves that fact over and over again, combining monetary efficiency with some excellent tones that are sure to make you and your amp happy. Let’s take a gander at this blue beauty, shall we?
The controls are nice and easy to use on the Mind Bender, but still produce a wide array of sounds for you to work with. One footswitch controls the Bypass of the effect, while the other lets you toggle between Vibrato and Chorus modes. Some pedals of this nature have a toggle switch you have to bend down to change, but the Mind Bender makes swapping tones a cinch with the well-designed addition of the 2nd switch.
Up top, two knobs give you control over both the Vibrato and Chorus sections. Speed obviously adjusts how slow or fast the effect is, while Depth lets you blend in your wet and dry signals to perfection. The knobs themselves have a bit of texture on the outside, and feet-savvy players may just be able to get away with adjusting both of these knobs on the fly. The Mind Bender also features a beefy mil-spec circuit board, 1% metal-film resistors and high-voltage poly caps, as well as true hardwire bypass.
We heard about this pedal from a rig rundown with Jake Cinninger of Umphrey’s McGee, so we figured we better get one and see what it could do. Super-impressive for sound and build from such an inexpensive pedal (especially used), one that was also able to wrangle up a Guitar World Platinum Award, too. Check out the video below to see a taste of how this pedal could add to your sound, and check out the BBE Sound website if you get a chance as well.
