The first couple of pedals from McCaffrey Audio that we reviewed, the Zero to Sixty Drive and Green Vodka Muff Fuzz, were just plain awesome, and we couldn’t wait to see what their next creation was going to be. Taking a turn towards the unexpected, they have now released the Run Rabbit Run, which is their take on a Vibrato-type pedal, but with so much more going on than you’d think.
Designed to give you that classic Uni-Vibe sound and feel, the Run Rabbit Run is capable of doing many other sounds, as well as nailing that old and beautiful vibe tone. This pedal is a classic, four-stage phaser, chorus and vibrato circuit, which produces everything from faint rotating speaker simulation to extreme octave/synth sounds when you crank the knobs and go off the grid. The footswitch in the middle turns the effect on or off, the one on the right lets you select (hands-free) either Chorus or Vibrato Mode, and the switch on the left is just called Crazy, and it instantly doubles the rate of the modulation.
A small Depth knob up in the left corner controls how intense and present the effect is, while the oversized Speed knob lets you adjust the rate with your foot with ease, seamlessly integrating the Run Rabbit Run into any song or style you can think of. The Thump toggle is a great addition, too, as it allows you to add in some low end response while turning down the depth, a feature not seen with a lot of vibe pedals in today’s market.
Able to play nice with both classic pedal setups and modern digital-infused boards, the Run Rabbit Run is a revolutionary product that can seriously replace 3 or pedals in your lineup (provided you don’t need 2 or 3 of these effects on one song). We saw the little NAMM demo that McCaffrey Audio did last year, and couldn’t wait to get our hands on this thing. Now that we finally have, good luck getting us to let it go!
