A lot of times, boost pedals just do one thing: Boost. While that is all well and good, sometimes you want a little more from a signal enhancer, and today’s featured pedal does just that and more. The Two Stroke Boost EQ pedal from Orange Amps is not your everyday, run-of-the-mill boost pedal, but a complex (yet easy to use) tone sculpter, instrument booster and EQ all rolled into one.

The Two Stroke doesn’t look like your typical boost pedal, with five control knobs lining its surface, as opposed to the usual one, maybe two found on the majority of boosts. A clean boost plus more, this pedal features an expansive Hi/Lo EQ section, as well as a volume control that pushes it into gorgeous breakup territory for any amp. The Oil knob controls the level of clean volume boost BEFORE the EQ section, up to +12dB of output to work with. The EQ section here is also unique, in that there are no pre-defined frequencies, but control knobs for the player to set them where they choose.

The dual independent parametric bands, Hi and Lo, each feature a knob that controls the Boost/Cut of each frequency (+/- 18dB), with 12:00 being the unity position for both. They also each have a FREQ control, which selects either the Hi frequency (850Hz – 8.5kHz) or the Lo frequency (120Hz – 1.2kHz). With a finely tuned Q curve on each, the Two Stroke produces an infinite amount of tone shaping sounds, while providing a smoothness not usually present in most EQ pedals.

Typical boost pedal positioning in your signal chain is also tossed right out the window – the Two Stroke plays nice before or after other pedals on your board, in front of your amp or even in the effects loop! Half the fun of this pedal, besides the great tones it lets loose, is that you can place it anywhere in your setup and get a fantastic result. Get ready to change the way you think about EQ and Boost pedals in general, as this just may become the most important pedal in your rig.
