The crew at Westminster Effects in South Carolina has slowly crept onto the pedal scene, and has amassed a nice little lineup of pedals, of few of which we’ve gotten to review. Their first effects we got our hands on was the Piper Drive, a great little overdrive/boost, and today’s featured pedal expands on that model a bit, with some more options and tones to play with. Let’s take a look at the Edwards Overdrive, shall we?
As is the case with many overdrive pedals, the control section is fairly standard: Gain, Volume and Tone are the knobs present here, and each play their own role in how the sonic tones of the Edwards are conjured up. This particular model, however, features two toggle switches to help shape the overdriven sound as well. The switch on the left lets you select hard or soft clipping, while the switch on the right is a diode selector. Here, you can pick from LEDs, silicon or diode lift options, deepening the spectrum of sounds this little gold marvel can produce.
Inspired by some of the great blues overdrives of the last 30 years, the Edwards Overdrive ranges from a high-quality clean boost all the way up to a warm and angry overdrive, with a nice range in between.
