While octave pedals are available in a variety of configurations it’s hard to find units that operate in the desired octave range and track well enough to be useful and musical. Enter the Walrus Audio Luminary Quad Octave Generator.
The fine people at Walrus have designed this pedal to work in the lower and higher octave ranges with some of the finest polyphonic tracking on the market. The pedal features an incredibly useful preset switch which can be used to store up to four settings, each with a color coded LED indicator. A combination Red, Green, Blue, and LED off indicator easily identifies which preset is being used. Presets can be saved by holding down the preset switch for three seconds.
The Luminary’s octaves include -2, -1, +1, and +2 level controls. A Dry/Wet control allows for versatile blending of individual octaves with the original signal. An Attack control dictates how fast the octaves bloom while a Filter control acts as a low-pass filter or envelope filter depending on its’ setting. A Flutter control adds a chorus effect that borders on ring modulation at higher settings. All of the Luminaries controls can be varied by an additional expression pedal as well.
The Luminary Quad Octave Generator features some of the best octave tracking on the market bar none. We tested the Luminary with a bass guitar playing chords and the units’ tracking was impeccable. The Luminary is able to track well even when placed after distorted and fuzz effects. It is built into a rugged sand-pebble texture colored enclosure and features a cool eyeball graphic in red and black ink. The Luminary is one of the best octave units available today.
