Chris Vos 1

How long have you been a musician? How did you get into it in the first place?

I’ve been obsessed with music since before I can remember and I’ve playing it since about 8th grade. I was a dairy farm kid so I didn’t really have access to electric guitars until I reached a certain age and knew I wanted one. By the end of 7th grade there was no way I wasn’t going to get a guitar somehow.

Chris Vos 3Who have been some of your major musical influences, past or present?

Muddy Waters, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Reed, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, The Stooges, The Beatles, many many more…

What drew you to using pedals initially? Have you been using them throughout your playing career? How have pedals helped to shape your sound, or influence the style that you’ve created?

Initially I was drawn to them because I just wanted to chase some new sounds around. I have had periods of my life where I have had a pedal board that looked like it could land a spaceship, and also the simplest you could find. At this point I really only use very very few. I tend to play a lot of different guitars in a bunch of different tunings and that is where I get the difference in my tones.

What’s your current setup look like? Take us through your pedal rig (feel free to include amps and instruments as well if you’d like):

Deluxe Reverb amp, Two Maxon OD’s, and a boost for my electric board. Nothing fancy, I try and keep the signal as clean as possible. I have an old Black Silverstone Tuxedo from the 50’s, a 90’s American tele, a 1958 Fender Champ Lapsteel, Guild Acoustic from the 70’s, and Gibson Hummingbird Pro, and a smattering of old Kay’s and Tesco Del Ray’s that I like to bring out on the road whenever possible.

Favorite type of pedal (drive, delay, fuzz, etc. – more than one answer is always acceptable!):

I love delay pedals, any and all of them. The irony is that I am not currently using one.

You’re stranded on a desert island – which three (3) of the following do you want to have?

Instruments: My old Guild Acoustic
Amps: Deluxe
Pedals: One Overdrive

Chris Vos 2What’s up next for you/your band(s)?

We are going on tour for the rest of the year. We’ll be hitting all corners of the United States. All the dates and tickets can be found on www.therecordcompany.net.

The Klon hype: Love it or Hate it?

I actually have never used nor heard one in person.

Any last comments, promos or anything you’d like to talk about?

Thanks for the interview, Mike!
